Child abuse is to harm children sexually and improperly. It’s something that goes on in the shadows doing damage and robbing children of their innocence forever. Children who are victims of this horrifying menace lead a stressful life and sometimes suffer throughout their life. Unfortunately, child sexual abuse is quite prevalent in Pakistan. Sexual violence is a crime that comes in many forms. It is because of severe physical and mental health problems.
According to Sahil, an organization that works on child protection, especially against child abuse in Pakistan.
Compared to 2017, child sexual abuse cases increased from 9% to 11% per day in 2018.
1: 3,832 cases of child sexual abuse were reported in 2018
2: 55% of the victims were girls while 45% were boys
3: Girls found to be more vulnerable between ages 0-5 and 16-18
4: Boys found to be more vulnerable between ages 6-15
5: Most child abuse cases reported from Punjab followed by Sindh and KP

In 2018 an incident caught the public’s attention when a 7-year-old girl named Zainab was brutally raped and murdered. She was found in a trash heap in Kasur on Jan 9, 2018. Zainab’s incident gave victim’s families the courage to speak out rather than hiding incidents of sexual abuse. A well-deserved death penalty was awarded to Zainab’s rapist. We need better laws and public awareness as it’s still rampant in Pakistan.

REASONS
1. Lack of communication between parents and children and their blind trust on family members contributes to child abuse occurring in our society.
2. Negligence of parents regarding the activities of a child while they are playing in the vicinity.
3. The abuser might be a victim of child abuse. Sometimes the victim becomes predators to cope with their past trauma, and they can be mentally challenged.
4. Perpetrators also involve in such activities and crimes due to delay in marriages.
5. Lack of education, access to pornographic content and drugs.
SOLUTION:
1. The government should take measures from grass root level to eradicate this horror like the implementation of child protection law.
2. Everyone in society should play their role, and children must be taught to protect themselves from an early age.
3. Counselling of victims should be mandatory so they can deal with the trauma.
4. Many such cases are pending in courts so speedy trial should be conducted to punish the culprits.
5. It can be prevented with proper education and social awareness.
Aside from punishing the rapist and killer severely, we also need to examine the root causes of this problem so it can be adequately addressed. This is the only way we can eradicate this menace and guarantee that there won’t be more cases like the Zainab’s in Pakistan. We need to stop predators before they begin.

Yes it’s indeed the most absurd reality of our society. I can still feel the pain of zainab and many children like her who went through this horrible phase of life
But we have to play our part to stop these kind of crimes. First of all we have to motivate our children to speak up about their issues, give them confidence and awareness of outside world. Dnt let them stay in a nutshell so anybody can break the shell easily. Good work Ambreen
